Paired With: (Lunch) Shellfish chowder. Turkey ruben sandwich with thousand island dressing, french fries and coleslaw.
Tasting:
He said: Chilled before opening. Quite dark yellow/green color. Predominant damp earth with fresh grass and ripe exotic fruit aromas. Crisp, fruity, smooth taste; followed by a very long slightly tart, dry finish. OUTSTANDING (in bold caps). In a blind tasting I NEVER would have identified this as Australian Sauvignon Blanc….and it looks pretty special when the label has a “hand written” bottle number on it. This is a wine I would buy again and again….which says it all. An OUTSTANDING “old world” Sauvignon Blanc at a good price.
She said: Clear lemon yellow color with well spaced legs that ere not on the fast track. The aroma was mild but had distinct scents of earth and barnyard. The experience in the mouth was mild flavored,dry and very smooth with a long finish that ended well and reflected all the good mellow overtones that were abounding. This wine was a good pairing with the seafood soup, but I would like to have it again and find a pairing that would do it justice. Great wine, not a good pairing with the ruben sandwich. A buy-again wine that was very easy drinking.
Comments: 1. Purchased in a Sidney, Australia wine shop and consumed in the Britannia Restaurant on board the Cunard Queen Mary 2.
2. Probably the best Australian Sauvignon Blanc we had on our visit to Australia.
