He said: Served at cellar temperature. Light wheat straw color. Quite strong floral and tropical fruit aromas. Sweet tropical fruit taste and a fairly long bitter finish. This is just OK Pinot Grigio, at best…a little sweet on the palate, not crisp and not fruity. Not nearly as good a value as many other readily available inexpensive Pinot Grigio’s. Sorry but I can’t recommend this one. It was bad with the dinner and bad drinking alone.
She said: The choice of wine was a bit arbitrary as I decided on dinner late in the day and Ray was hard pressed to come up with a suitable wine. We decided on Pinot Grigio as being the best of our choices, with no Riesling or Gewurztraminer in sight. This choice did not work out well and I blame us rather than the wine. The aroma was pleasant and a tad sweet offering promise for our dinner but the taste was too tart to sustain the saltiness of the soy sauce in the stir fry sauce, and lasted as the dominant taste in the long finish. I can recommend this wine at this point but should like to try it again.
Comments: Wine Spectator magazine gave this wine a rating of 88; however for us it was not even close to that number. Also, Total Wine is now selling Kupelwieser Alto Adige Pinot Grigio for $7.99.
