He said: Chilled before drinking. Clear, dark golden yellow color. Citrus, pineapple, apple and floral aromas. Creamy smooth mouth-feel; ripe apple and tropical fruit taste with a medium long lemony and mineral finish. Clearly not the best pairing…it would be outstanding with scallops, Dover sole or other white fish. I was expecting this to be crisp and acidic, neither of us found this to be the case and we both commented how smooth and creamy (almost flat) it was. We’ve had Piquepoul wine before and really liked it (see our review of Picpoul De Pinet Domaine La Viste 2013); but this was nothing like that wine.
She said: Dark canary yellow, clear, with poorly formed legs. Sweet fruity aroma is followed by a fruity taste complemented by a smooth, creamy mouth-feel and a long finish with hints of grapefruit and bitterness. The dinner was admittedly mundane but the wine did nothing for it and was not refreshing because of its creaminess. Sipping it alone after dinner was not much more rewarding but I would try it again with a more appropriate pairing, perhaps shell fish.
Comments: Occasionally we will give a Pending rating to wines that we felt were just not paired well, needed decanting or we thought needed another tasting before we rated them. We than rate the second bottle. If the rating becomes Not Recommended we simply edit the original post; if it gets a Recommended or Quality wine at a Bargain Price rating we post a second tasting.
