Tasting:
-
Chilled before drinking. Clear, almost colorless, with just a tiny hint of wheat straw color. Strong lime and uncooked Kieffer pear aromas. Smooth, light and zesty mouthfeel, 200-grit texture and a light to medium body. A medicinal taste along with lime, pear, mango and glimmers of yellow apple flavors. Nice crisp acidity and a long lime and mango flavored stony mineral finish. We received two cases of this wine when we ordered the 2018 vintage of Huber Gruner Veltliner (see our review of Huber Gruner Veltliner 2017). It’s been almost a year since we tasted 2017 Huber, but we both immediately commented that the Handwerk was much more tropical, less flavorful and not nearly as refreshing. With that said the Handwerk paired well with this dinner and should be equally as good with other Thai and Indian food, but it’s just not as good as the Huber sipping without food. In the end we called it an EXCELLENT value Gruner Veltliner.
