Chilled before drinking. Clear, very pale wheat straw color. Faint green apple and citrus aromas. Smooth entry, very slightly creamy, zesty, and fresh mouthfeel, medium to full body and a 100-grit texture. Spicy, unripe melon, and lemon flavors. Plenty of crisp acidity and a long zesty and slightly bitter finish. WOW an unusual Chardonnay from Sandhi. Quite refreshing, loaded with fresh acidity, lots of zing and a hard sandstone mineral taste, but not like traditional California Chardonnay or what we expected. It was a very tight, green Chardonnay that lost most traces of California and is breaking stereotype boundaries of “New World” Chardonnay. We expected a Chardonnay similar to Sandhi’s Sandhi Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2016, but this goes way beyond that. We called it a cutting edge example in the changing world of California Chardonnay.
