Tasting:

Prolog: Not long ago we had an Undercurrent Restaurant Wagner Family Virtual Wine Dinner. The three course dinner cost $150 that included dinner for two and three bottles of Wagner wines. The food came with detailed heating and plating instructions and was simply OUTSTANDING. The following is a review of the wine served with the first course.

Chilled before drinking. Clear, very light wheat straw color. Musty aroma with hints of citrus and apple. Reasonably smooth, soft, bitter and dusty mouthfeel, medium body and a 200-grit texture. Lemon, grapefruit and fresh cut apple flavors. Medium acidity and a long refreshing finish. If we were blind tasting this wine the name Chardonnay never would have come to mind. This was very much like a generic Spanish white that was marketed as Mediterranean White and could easily be called a garden variety white wine. The smooth unoaked Chardonnay paired well with the food in spite of being a simple nondescript white wine. In the end we said it was a “not bad” white sipping wine.
