He said: Chilled before drinking. Clear with just the tiniest hint of lemon yellow color and subtle effervescence that gave it a delightful festive feel. Strong aromas of blooming honeysuckle and yeasty fresh dough. Fresh, but with a creamy, fairly heavy body; a combination of honey and fresh baked bread tastes that we’re silky smooth and lead to a finish that bursts forward with glimmers of acidity to provide a good balance. What an opulent and flavorful Moscato. It was delightful with the strawberries and whipped cream, but also a nice sweet sipping wine…but, beware, with it’s very low alcohol content and easy drinking character you will probably want more than one bottle!!! OUTSTANDING sweet bubbly that makes a FANTASTIC dessert wine.
Last week we had the opportunity of meeting Franco Pena, Cascina Barisel owner and wine maker, at a Caviste Wine Shop dinner along with several producers who’s wine is imported by Piedmont Wine Imports. Learning about his vineyard and wine first hand really gave us insight into the attention to detail and the huge amount of personal care Franco put into his wines. And, probably most important to us is the emotional connection we now share when drinking Cascina Barisel wines.
She said: Clear, pale golden yellow color with a delicate effervescence. This is a rather sweet wine from the first sniff of honey to the last bit of finish and it was perfect with the strawberries and whipped cream. There was just enough effervescence to be interesting, but not enough to be overwhelming. The honey aroma led to a full flavored taste and smooth creamy mouth-feel. The finish was long and full of flavor ending with a refreshing lift at the very end. An excellent choice for this dessert.
