He said: Opaque dark red color. Light cherry bouquet with a hint of alcohol. Cherry and red berry taste and a dry earthy finish. With the chili it was pretty good, but it’s a wild and wooly Zinfandel. Zinfandels can be rough and still be good, but this was a little harsh. I do like the long dry earthy finish, almost like very dark chocolate.
She said: Chili is difficult to pair with wine and perhaps beer is the best choice. On the other hand, I am always up for a challenge so why not give it a try. We tried this low priced Zinfandel and were not impressed with the wine. It lacked a good bouquet and body but had acceptable, although undistinguished flavor. The medium firm tannins made the finish. This is not a wine I would recommend but to be honest I thought it did pretty well with the chili; better than many we have tried in the past. But be warned, my chili is somewhat sweet
Comments: We had this wine for the first time at a Wine Merchants Gourmet wine pairing dinner. It was good enough to single out and purchase at the end of the meal. But now I’m wondering why we bought it!!!
