Opened and decanted for two and a half hours before drinking. Just barely clear, purple/garnet color with the same color rim. Powerful blackberry, plum, and nutmeg aromas. Smooth, very approachable, tart and juicy, full body and 150-grit texture. Concentrated blackberry, slightly bitter (red) boysenberry, plum and black pepper flavors. Crisp acidity, silky tannins and a long bitter dark fruit finish that ends with an upturn of tobacco . WOW delicious rich bitterness combined with undiluted juicy fruit. The ultra smooth tannins and strong fruity flavors really established the refined character of the wine. Outstanding paired with the very flavorful venison enchiladas and Mexican rice (it was a perfect pairing), but it was unusually savory and not at all overpowering sipping without food after the dinner. This can only be described as superb California Zinfandel and for the price, as good a value as you can get!!!
