Opened and decanted one hour before drinking. Clear, purple/ruby color with a light purple rim. VERY UNUSUAL Zinfandel aromas of lilacs in full bloom, heavy perfume and smoky hardwood. Smooth entry, intense, lush, full body and a 150-grit texture. Rich and powerful cherry, blueberry, dark bitter chocolate, tar and spicy pepper flavors. Abundant edgy acidity, round edged chewy tannins and a long very bitter finish that was loaded with black licorice and smoky tastes. WOW, this was RICH and INTENSE Zinfandel and the floral scents really were atypical!!! Quite a complicated wine that went very well with the venison, but you would have to be a big and bold wine drinker to enjoy it without food. A unique and delicious Zinfandel.
