Opened and decanted one hour before drinking. Clear ruby-purple color with a light purple rim. Ripe cherry, blackberry and raspberry aromas with whiffs of new leather and tobacco; but in the background it really smelled like the chaparral environment where the vines grew. Smooth entry, refined and savory, medium-full body and a 80-grit texture. Strong cherry, blackberry and boysenberry flavors with noticeable cinnamon and peppery spice. Bright acidity, round edged grippy tannins and a long fruity finish. All the ingredients of good Zinfandel without the big bold character. Vicky commented that it’s like the difference between our Lotus Seven race car that’s raucous and out of control vs her Mercedes with its comfortable and relaxed yet spirited temperament. The venison chili was not hot and only mildly spicy and the rich fruit Zinfandel flavors were a perfect pairing. It was one of those bottles of wine we wish would never empty. A very delicious Zinfandel.
