Tasting:
-
Opened two hours before drinking. Clear, inky dark purple-garnet color with a light purple rim. Ripe fruity plum, blackberry, cinnamon and wet wood aromas. Smooth, dry, lush mouthfeel, full body and a 200-grit texture. Discernible flavors of tart plum, blackberry and strawberry with a background of smoky tobacco. Bright acidity, grippy tannins and a long finish that gets progressively bitter and ends with a hint of pepper. No hard edges here and not a traditional bold or aggressive California Zinfandel. In a few words we called it a lighter, fruity and dry Zinfandel with well balanced acidity and tannins. And, it was one of our “all-time” good pairings with the turkey and mole sauce. A less expensive Ridge Zinfandel that was simply delicious.
