Tasting:
-
Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, dark garnet color with a slight purple rim. Strong aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, chocolate-flavored caffè latte and hints of cinnamon. Smooth, tart, prominent, dry, full body and 150-grit texture. Conspicuous ripe cherry, raspberry and plum flavors with a rich chewy complexity that really adds to the taste. Bountiful fresh acidity, fine grained leathery tannins and a long slightly bitter finish. Rich and powerful Zinfandel, but not over the top and very different from most California big and bold Zinfandel. Slightly rustic, fruit forward, but with a touch of peppery spice well after mid-palate and filled with taste nuances that make it a unique California Zinfandel. By the end of the last pour we were both saying it was one of the best California Zinfandels we have ever had!!! It’s a low production wine that’s only available through the vineyard, but it’s worth some extra effort to get it.
