He said: Clear, dark red color. Strong red berry bouquet with strong hints of leather and old fashion mucilage glue. Raspberry taste with a dry lingering finish. This was OK at best with the chicken and maybe a little better sipping after the meal. Not bad, but at $16.99 I was a little disappointed. At this price there are lots of California Zinfandels available, and I would not buy this one again.
She said: The meal was not an easy one to match with wine, but a Zinfandel seemed like a good choice. So I am admitting up front that the wine was at a disadvantage. We first tasted the wine at a wine pairing dinner and liked it enough to buy more. That being said, I have to say I was a bit disappointed at first with the wine when paired with this dinner. That is not to say the wine was a loser, it wasn’t.
The dark red color and full bodied bouquet are a turn on. And, the bouquet lasts for a long time! The bouquet is mirrored in the flavor but with the addition of dryness and firm tannins that linger into the long finish is a positive…except that there is an odd flavor that reminds me of the horse hoof glue I used as a child. But, I also got a hint of the red berry flavor, ever so slight, but delicious. Personally, I liked St. Francis Zinfandel better and we can buy it for a bit less.
