Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, dark purple/ruby color with the same color rim. Heavy funky aroma of musty basement, plum and forest floor. The mouthfeel had a smooth entry, was juicy and sweet, had a medium body and 150-grit texture (even with only 12% alcohol there was a back of the throat raspiness on all three pours). Tart dark fruity plum and blackberry dominated, but there was an underlying metallic taste especially in the aftertaste. It had nice fresh acidity and light grainy tannins that became slightly grippy through the dusty, slightly bitter finish. The venison pairing was fine. We both commented it’s “Not Bad” wine, but not the outstanding wine we have come to expect from Broc Cellars. At this price we would only give it two thumbs up.
