Opened one hour before drinking. Opaque, purple-red color with a lighter purple rim. Musty damp wood, plum and hints of tobacco aromas. Powerful, surprising, a little biting and puckering mouthfeel, medium to full body and a 60-grit texture. Savory flavors of plum, boysenberry and spicy pepper intertwined with a light mineral core. Edgy acidity, fine grained but powerful tannins and a tart, condensed and robust finish. There was no sleeping violet in this bottle…it was bold Syrah, but overflowing with subtle distinctions that got better with each pour. Maybe not the best pairing; however we really enjoyed this Syrah and in the end called it a distinctive and delicious Rhône Syrah.
