Opened one hour before drinking. Just at the edge of clear, ruby color with a light red rim. Lots of barnyard, crushed Sassafras albidum leaves, plum and licorice aromas. Vigorous, a bit rustic and spicy mouthfeel, medium body and a 60-grit texture. Tart that turns to bitter after mid-palate, blackberry, plum and current flavors. Gobs of bright acidity, grippy tannins and a long peppery finish that ended with an intriguing smokiness. No shrinking violet here…this wine was brawny, flavorful and full of character. It was a real WOW and an unexpected surprise. We said it was a mouth-watering Syrah that had an abundance of seductive juicy fruit tastes.
This is the second Aubai Mema wine we have had and they have both been GREAT value wines!!!
