Synopsis, Our Opinion: This has been our favorite Chianti for several years and this 2006 is truly the apotheosis of Chianti Classico!!!

We have reviewed three tastings of the 2008 vintage of this wine, however the 2006 vintage, with additional age, was so special that we thought it needed one more review to really show the qualities of this very special Chianti.
Opened 45-minutes before drinking. Clear, concentrated dark ruby and purple color with an easily identifiable brownish color rim. Rich earthy cherry and plum aroma (one of the characteristics 2008 vintage) but with whiffs of dry lavender in late fall. Smooth entry, VERY approachable, refined, medium body and a 150-grit texture. Unique ripe flavors of cherry, plum and blackberry intertwined with peppery spice, energetic and lively acidity with bone dry mouth puckering tannins that have a sumptuous grit. Than get ready for the crème de la crème Chianti finish…packed with opulent fruit flavors, pepper and cardamom spice that all combines with burgeoning tannins that hang on long after the finish has ended. When we first tasted the 2008 vintage it was five years old, but this 2006 at 12 years old and has really developed into a MEMORABLE Chianti. There is more depth and breadth to the wine from start to finish…with the extra age in the bottle both the flavors and mouthfeel had expanded so we could identify more layers of flavor and they became substantially more concentrated. The Caparsino Riserva has been our favorite Chianti for several years and this 2006 vintage is truly the apotheosis of Chianti Classico!!!
