Opened and decanted 45-minuets before drinking. Opaque, inky dark garnet color with a very slightly lighter rim. Strong blackberry, blueberry and dry tarragon aromas with whiffs of a cedar lined closet. Full-body, smooth with just a little grit to the texture. Concentrated blackberry and plum flavors with tiny hints of chocolate and strong overtones of ripe wild wine berries (Rubus phoenicolasius) we used to pick in the hedge-rows at the farm in New Jersey during the first cutting of hay. Delicious peppery spice at mid-palate, but opulent fruit all the way through the long finish that was loaded with smooth-edged firm tannins. WOW, a jaw-dropping mixture of enhanced fruit flavors that end with licorice and just the right amount of tannin to give the wine an exhilarating persona. Remarkable wine that had distinctive and sumptuous tastes from start to finish. We both said it was a very MEMORABLE Petite Syrah that really made the venison pairing sparkle…California sunshine at it’s best!!!
