Opened 90-minutes before drinking. Opaque, dark ruby-purple color with a brick red rim. Strong, sharp alcohol (on the first and second pour) and an acetone aroma with hints of plum and blackberry. VERY smooth entry, chalky mouthfeel, 60-grit texture and full body. Ripe blackberry flavors. Edgy acidity, flabby tannins and a chewy finish that had some bite and dark fruitiness. We were very concerned after seeing the cork come out of the bottle, it looked like there was leakage even before we pulled the cork. There was no oxidation, but the wine didn’t sparkle as we expected and the tannins were unlike any Petite Sirah we have ever experienced. We have another bottle and will update this review if there is a difference. With that said the wine had good acidity but simply tasted FLAT. It was just OK, but not great and we expected Ridge Vineyards great!!! We’re hoping it was a bad cork and our second bottle is MUCH better.
