He said: Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, ruby red color with a brick red rim. Cherry aroma with hints of damp earth. (The first two pours had quite a bit of alcohol in the aroma.) Bright acidic, peppery fruit taste that ends with a sharp finish, there was simply too much astringent tannins for me. With the dinner it was OK, at best; drinking alone it just had a sharpness in the finish; but, with a bite of Asiago cheese it calmed down and became pretty smooth. Would I recommend it at $23.40? Probably not, especially since we have had other Matteo Correggia wines and loved them. This was just not a $23.00 wine!!!
She said: Ruby red with brown rim, clear, thin legs moving well. First sniff had an alcohol component that decreased slowly to let a fruitiness emerge. Short on flavor, light bodied and too sharp for my taste. The finish was long but not enjoyable. The wine was OK with the dinner but definitely improved when I brought out some Asiago cheese because it cut down on the harshness. Without the cheese this wine would not rate as a good sipping wine.
Comments: This was the second bottle of this wine and although we didn’t write up the first tasting about a year earlier, our comments would have been the same…another year did no help this wine.
