He said: While we were in California this year we bought what we thought was the best Madeira we could buy at the Woodland Hills Wine Company, but in a nutshell we were disappointed. We have been totaly corrupted by drinking old D’Oliveira Madeiras. This was OK paired with the pumpkin cheesecake, but it just didn’t have the silky smooth texture of Malvasia that we have come to expect from both the Broadbent and D’Oliveira Madeiras we frequently drink. My taste buds really grove on the rich honey, caramel and toasted oak flavors of Malvasia, but this one, although OK simply couldn’t compete.
She said: Opaque, dark reddish brown with lots of thin rapidly moving legs. I love Madeira but have tasted them in the Funchal wine cellars, so expect a lot. This was not up to the expectations…a little harsh on the nose and rough on the palate. It had the typical caramel flavor, with only medium body and a sweet medium long finish. In spite of the rough texture it was delicious with the cheesecake that soften the edges with its own sweetness. At $60 it was not cheap and there are better buys available.
