Tasting:

He said: Crystal clear, ruby red color. Very strong barnyard, dark fruit and damp earth aromas. Intense ripe cherry, red current and mineral taste. Medium length finish with lots of dry, dusty tannins and crisp cherry taste. Maybe not a WOW Beaujolais, but it is absolutely DELICIOUS. And, for only $16.20 it’s a VERY, VERY good buy. For me I didn’t have to drink this wine to enjoy it…I just had to smell it.

She said: While Ray is carrying on over the barnyard flavors I am enjoying the firm chewy tannins…the most noteworthy characteristic of the wine for me. The aroma and flavor were good but the light body of a Beaujolais is a negative for me. (Remember I am not fond of light bodied wines in general and unless there is a strong aroma or flavor to compensate they are not my favorites.)

Comments: Beaujolais from the Saint-Amour Cru has a unique combination of fruit and mineral due to the limestone soil in this northern-most area. We specifically purchased this Saint-Amour Beaujolais to see if we could identify this combination…and it didn’t disappoint us. If you like Beaujolais and mineral taste you will love this one.
