Opened 45-minutes before drinking. Opaque, inky dark purple with a lighter purple rim. Ripe plum, blackberry and a whiff of damp earth aromas. A little rough, bold, dry and raspy mouthfeel, medium to full body and an 80-grit texture. Spicy ripe plum and cherry flavors and a strong gritty earthy taste, edgy acidity, grippy tannins and an unusual long potent finish that was filled with musty fruit. WOW, what an interesting Counoise varietal!!! Not a sipping wine, but its boldness went well with the meat balls and Madeira sauce.
