Tasting:

He said: Opened 1-hour before drinking. Clear dark purple color with a light purple rim Light barn yard and sweaty horse aromas. murky dark fruit taste and a dry, mouth-filling long finish. Fairly smooth flat flavored taste that prepares the palate for the slightly harsh finish. Tiny sips were all that could be handled before the dinner, but with the beef it stepped up and improved. I put this into the category of “Drinkable”…especially at this price point, but would not buy it again. It’s heavily advertised in Wine Spectator and I think it’s way over rated!!!

She said: Expecting a wine brimming with aroma and flavor to go with our steak, I was disappointed because I got some flavor but virtually no aroma. Ray cautioned me to wait and I have to admit the wait was worth while because red fruit with dusty hints emerged. But after that things did not improve. The medium body and dryness were a plus and the tannins were a little overwhelming. Alright with the beef and the wine held up to the rest of the dinner, but was definitely not memorable. We have had better Spanish Dueros for $15!

Comments: This wine was purchased on board the Queen Mary 2 at restaurant prices. Unless we feel strongly about the price we will direct our comments at the quality of the wine recognizing that it should be possible to purchase it for (two or three times) less at a wine store.
