Opened 90-minutes before drinking. Clear, inky dark garnet color with a slightly lighter rim. Ripe cherry, juicy raspberry and just a touch of cedar sawdust aromas. Smooth entry, rich and a tad sweet mouthfeel, full body and a 100-grit texture. Musty cherry and raspberry flavors. Medium bright acidity, fine grained tannins that were very ripe tasting in the long slightly bitter and VERY FRUITY finish. Yes, it’s a big bold Napa Cabernet blend, but the combination of grapes results in quite an appealing end product. OK with the venison and good sipping without food. It’s interesting to note how different this was paired with the Undercurrent dinner (See: Undercurrent Restaurant Virtual Wine Dinner with wines from the Prisoner Wine Company) when the sweetness did not put us off so much. We observed the sweetness immediately with the savory venison dinner and it was a big negative. It’s not an inexpensive wine, but if you pair it right it does have some appeal and in the end we called it an alluring Napa Cabernet blend.
