Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, garnet color with the same color rim. Earthy cherry aromas. Smooth, very dusty, slightly chewy mouthfeel, medium body and a 150-grit texture. Concentrated ripe cherry, licorice and chocolate flavors. Plenty of edgy acidity, fine-grained tannins that slowly develop some grip and a long fruit dominated peppery finish. On the first pour it was tight and lacked depth and flavor, but on the last pour (about two hours after opening) it really came alive with delicious fruit flavors and just enough smooth grip to the tannins to make them noticeable. Excellent with the VERY DELICIOUS venison and Madeira sauce. We called it an excellent week night red.
