Tasting:
-
Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, ruby red with a brown cast and lighter rim. Strong damp earth, mushrooms, ripe current, plum and cherry aromas, but with haunting whiffs of olives (and more than hints of alcohol on every pour). Smooth entry, rustic, fruity, dry, medium body and a 150-grit texture. Very identifiable strawberry and raspberry flavors, but there was also a unique gamey taste that really gave it character. Tangy bright acidity, smooth leathery tannins that were very “Earl Gray” like and a long, slightly bitter and licorice tasting finish. Vibrant red wine that paired PERFECTLY with the venison. Simply delicious…an OUTSTANDING wine that’s a GREAT value.
