Opened 45-minutes before drinking. Clear, inky dark ruby color with a lighter purple rim and a tiny bit of fine residue in the glasses of the last pour. Light aromas of fresh cherry and damp basement. Rustic, dusty and thin mouthfeel, medium body and a 100-grit texture. Light but discernible cherry and plum flavors mixed in with other tart fruit and just touch of cinnamon. Refreshing crisp acidity, smooth tannins hiding in the shadows and a medium-length slightly spicy clove finish. WOW. What can you expect from a $5.59 French Southern Rhone red wine? Well this one delivers a little of just about everything you can come up with and more. We liked the Perrin Family $9.99 Reserve Cotes du Rhone much more, but this one is easily the best $5 red wine we have had in a long time!!! It was good paired with the chili, but not as pleasing without food. It doesn’t excel with strong or enticing aromas, flavors or tannins, but it’s not sweet, is VERY DRINKABLE and probably one of the least expensive wines on the grocery store shelves. At this price point it’s a four thumbs up TastedOnline rating in spades. So if this is your price range for a bottle of wine we recommend it, without reservation. There is no question it’s higher quality than most of the other red wines on the grocery store shelves that are several times the price of this one. A fantastic understated red wine that’s an incredible value.
