Opened 60-minutes before drinking. Clear, dark ruby with a very light purple rim. Aromas of smoky dark fruit, wet wood, hints of licorice and tobacco and occasional whiffs of lavender. Rustic, spicy, bone-dry, medium body and a 100-grit texture. Dominant cherry with lesser amounts of plum and blackberry flavors all wrapped around a peppery spice core. Edgy acidity, grippy tannins and a powerful long spicy-tart finish that ends with an interesting mineral aftertaste. WOW, not a heavy wine, but gobs of flavor and a super strong finish. Great with the venison and roasted tomato sauce in the lasagna. An energetic Italian red that pairs very well with food. It’s versatility makes it a good candidate for a “House Red”…it’s a very unique and delicious wine!!!
