Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, dark ruby color with a very slightly lighter rim. Robust cherry, blackberry and plum aromas with hints of herbs. Slightly sharp entry, but it smoothed out quickly, concentrated and tangy mouthfeel, medium body and an 80-grit texture. Tart cherry, blackberry and plum flavors. Plenty of bright acidity, firm tannins that really show there stuff in the peppery finish. Slow to open, but when it did we were pleasantly surprised with a rich and somewhat complex versatile red wine. Definitely a little more potent than most run-on -the-mill bottles of Barbera. We have been drinking a lot of very excellent Nebbiolo lately and we would put it at that level. It was a GREAT Barbara.
