Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, purple/ruby color with LOTS of evenly dispersed course sediment throughout the glass on every pour and a light purple rim. Intoxicating aromas of old dry wood, tar, lots of cherry and boysenberry fruit all mixed with a persistent background of moldy hay. Smooth entry with a very bold mouthfeel, full body and a 40-grit texture. Juicy, ripe boysenberry flavor with glimmers of mineral and peppery spice. Medium acidity, firm tannins that developed lots of grip and a medium-long mouth puckering finish. This was a powerful fruity wine with tannins that had a real kick. Outstanding paired with the grilled chicken and mushroom sauce, but equally good sipping without food. Great aroma, great flavors and OUTSTANDING firm tannins…we really liked this wine and it was a screaming fantastic bargain. The mouthfeel alone was worth the price of the wine.
