Served at room temperature in a large Cognac glass. Clear, dark amber color. Sultry apple, nuts and virile wood aromas (with no alcohol smells). Off-dry, VERY smooth, yet strong “high-test” mouthfeel, medium body and 400-grit texture. Tastes of aged apple, honey and apricot that carry through a fairly long silky finish that had substantial tannins. WOW, WOW, WOW, this was potent while being VERY REFINED and ELEGANT at the same time. We drank it from large Cognac glasses and found it best with one ice cube in the glass with about one shot of Calvados. We had the opportunity to visit the Chateau du Breuil Calvados distillery while in Normandy and after tasting several different aged samples (8, 12, 15 and 20 years) we selected the 20-year as clearly the best with its smooth integrated flavors. At 41% alcohol tiny sips are required!!! This was the first Calvados we’ve had and our reaction was really positive. We would describe it as elegant, willowy and flavorful that was much like a fine brandy.
