Tasting:

He said: Opened 2-hours before drinking. Slightly opaque, brownish/garnet color with the same color rim. Light damp wood, smoky, dark fruit aromas. Smooth, yet a little tangy and with a dusty, dry, and medium/light body; tart fruit (cherry and blackberry) flavors and a medium length, slightly bitter, dry mineral finish. Good with the dinner, good drinking alone after the meal. There’s a lot packed into this bottle for only $13.50…it’s a SUPER value “week night” Syrah.

Although a Syrah may appear to be a strange pairing with Calzone, it was recommended in What to Drink with What you Eat and it turned out to be a fantastic combination.

She said: Opaque, dark ruby red color, lots of irregularly shaped and spaced slowly moving legs. Not much aroma, but a very nice dry, smooth mouth feel with plenty of fruit flavors and a medium body that yielded some nice light tannins. More flavors developed as it passed over the back of the palate, leading to a long finish with a hint of bitterness. A delicious wine with the calzone as well as sipping afterwards. Definitely a Quality wine at a Bargain price for only $13.50.
