He said: Dark brownish red color. Pleasant aroma of ripe current and hints of cherry. Smooth, pretty dry, fruity taste that included over-ripe cherry that almost had a sweetness to it. The medium-length dry finish had soft tannins. Because this was one of two very differently priced wines being blind tasted, everyone was shocked that this low priced grocery store Cabernet was so good. It’s definitely not a “fine” Cabernet Sauvignon; however it’s dirt cheap, easy drinking and not sweet or harsh. It’s without question a bargain wine.
She said: The most unexpected opportunities for blind wine tasting sometimes present themselves and this was one of them. Our son had bought a grocery store wine on the advise of his 4-year old daughter who liked the look of the label and we brought an Italian Nebbiolo wine that is NEVER sold at a grocery store (and had a conservative label). From the first sniff to the last taste of finish the wines were very different and easily distinguished. The Acronym Cabernet was brownish red, had a pleasant fresh fruit aroma and taste, a medium body and moderately firm tannins that went into a medium-length finish with no harshness at all. The Nebbiolo, on the other hand, was ruby red, had an alcohol aroma, and was sufficiently harsh that the short finish was a blessing. Everyone at the table chose the Acronym Cabernet as their favorite and considerable discussion about mixing up the bottles ensued until the second pouring with uncovered labels yielded the same result. The saving grace for the Nebbiolo wine was that it did improve with time and after dinner had mellowed a bit and some complexity of flavor had begun to develop. I definitely recommend the Acronym Cabernet Sauvignon as a bargain wine.
