Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, pale garnet color with the same color rim. Strong damp earth, ripe cherry, mushrooms and herbal spice aromas. Coarse-grained, gamey and lively mouthfeel, medium body and lots of 80-grit texture. Dominant cherry, but with a wide variety of flavors including plum, raspberry and current. Very fresh acidity, well integrated tannins and an exceptionally powerful spicy fruit finish. Wow, rich and well spiced California Pinot Noir that had plenty of concentrated fruit flavors. The sultry midpalate tastes really gave it a unique personality. A luxurious flavored and well-spiced California Pinot Noir.
Note: We have this dinner quite frequently and most notably with Rajat Parr Wine Club Semillon Never Say Never Yount Mill Vineyard 2019; however this flavorful and spicy Pinot Noir was a very excellent pairing too. Maybe not as memorable, but certainly reason to continue experimenting with other wine pairings for this dinner.
