Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, with a slight haze, bronzy ruby color and a lighter rim. Damp wood, damp basement, fresh cut conifers and bold fruit aromas. Dusty and tingling (almost effervescent) mouthfeel, solid medium body and an 80-grit texture. Tart cranberry, plum, cretaceous mineral and sweet spice flavors. Lots and lots of bright acidity, fine-grained firm tannins that start light, but develop quite nicely in the very fruity and mineral finish. A fairly acidic wine that’s overflowing with mineral, quite fruit forward and provides a delightful array of sensory tastes. Excellent with the strong flavored dinner, but as a sipping wine it appeared more complex, the minerality hit a crescendo and the exquisite balance really shinned. This is our second Michel Gahier wine, see: Gahier Chardonnay Arbois La Fauquette 2014 and it’s noteworthy that they were both exceptional. We called it a vibrant Trousseau that was both mineral driven and elegant.
