Opened one hour before drinking. Clear ruby color with a slightly light brown rim. Musty cherry, tobacco and herbal aromas. A tad rustic, rich and intense mouthfeel, medium to full body although it looked and behaved in the glass like a thin, light body wine and a 100-grit texture. Very concentrated flavors including the dominant sour cherry and peppery spice with much less tart cranberry fruit. A large amount of well integrated acidity that really gives lift to the wine, delicious slightly grippy tannins and a long rich and spicy finish. This was a WOW Italian red wine. Abundant flavors, plenty of fresh acidity and tannins that gave it real character. Delicious with the simple dinner, but probably equally good with meats. We called it a noteworthy red Valpolicella that made a simple dinner memorable.
