Note: We first had this Joel Gott Pinot Noir as part of the Virtual Wine Dinner: Undercurrent Restaurant; Greensboro, North Carolina, then recorked it and paired BBQ pork with it at home the next night.
Opened and recorked for 24 hours before drinking. Very thin ruby red color with a lighter red rim. Faint aromas of damp earth and musty cherry and raspberry. Fairly smooth entry with a thin, spicy and off dry mouthfeel, light body and a 100-grit texture. Quite brassy bitter taste with juicy ripe raspberry, cherry and strawberry flavors. Lots of bright acidity that wasn’t very well integrated, smooth tannins and a medium-length very spicy clove finish. A little sweet for our palate, but an OK pairing with the sweet potatoes and pork at the wine dinner. We found it to be a disappointing Pinot Noir.
