Opened one hour before drinking. Opaque, concentrated dark purple color with a lighter purple rim. Lots of very ripe plum, blackberry and cherry fruit aromas along with quite prominent clove and anise spice. On the palate it had a smooth entry, full body, high-test alcohol and 100 grit texture. Robust and potent fruit and licorice flavors, gobs of fresh acidity and plenty of soft-edge grippy tannins. BUT…it was so fruity sweet and intense it was a little much for our palate…just to much like a big, bold California cab!!! With that said it was good with the pizza, but not as good drinking without food. A unique “New World” Italian blend that was full of aroma, hearty body, flavor, acidity and tannins, but the fruity sweetness became so dominating it lost some of its appeal…after dinner we both commented, “it’s being sold in a California wine shop and bet it’s a best seller”. A big, bold Italian red blend and another Matt Bayless wine selection.
