Paired With: Roast pork tenderloin with onion and Masala gravy, basmati rice and sauteed cabbage with bacon and caraway seeds lightly sprinkled with balsamic vinegar. Chunks of apple would have improved cabbage and been a perfect addition to the whole dinner.

Prolog: Well today I made a visit to “the Caviste”, our favorite wine shop, and one of the items I went for was this years Beaujolais Nouveau. When I returned home and announced we now had the 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau in our cellar our goat stew dinner was shelved and we had pork tenderloin with Marsala gravy to pair with our Beaujolais.
Opened 45-minuets before drinking. Clear, ruby color with a tint of purple and a light purple rim. Rich raspberry and gritty earth aromas. Silky, fresh exuberant acidity and only one notch above light-body; lively, spicy, raspberry, cherry, strawberry and tarragon flavors that were awash in concentrated stony mineral; followed by a dry, zippy, tart finish that overpowered the soft tannins. Nouveau Beaujolais is simply a FANTASTIC wine and this example is a keeper. Good aroma and good flavors, but there is something magical about the rustic (fresh and raw) mouth-feel that just blossoms in the finish…and our made in heaven pairing with the roast pork certainly helped. We would sum it up like this…Beaujolais Nouveau is like a warm crackling fire when camping out in the Rocky Mountains on a cold winter night…just like the wine it’s a gutsy experience!!! Vicky said she envisioned the pheasants drinking Beaujolais Nouveau as they watched Robespierre guillotine the enemies of the republic…don’t ask…just drink up and envision the heads rolling by!!!
